The Trauma Society of South Africa provides or oversees the provision of the following trauma courses:


Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC®)

  • Aimed at rural hospitals
  • A training faculty teaches the course to doctors and nurses in the emergency department of the host hospital

Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS®)


Basic Trauma Surgical Skills (BTSS©)

  • Aimed at entry level surgical registrars and medical officers
  • Teaches basic trauma operations that must be mastered at the beginning of surgical training

Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC®)

  • Aimed at post-intermediate surgical registrars and specialist surgeons
  • Teaches advanced trauma surgical techniques and a comprehensive approach to complex trauma
